Advice for rainy day wedding photographs
As a wedding photographer in England, you know that the weather can be really unpredictable! Even during the summer months, rain can be a constant worry for your wedding day. But don’t let the weather dampen your spirits or hopes of epic photos. In my experience the rain can bring more opportunities, not less! Here are some tips for coping if it rains on your wedding day.
1. Be prepared:
The best way to cope with rain on your wedding day is to be prepared. Make sure you have a plan B in case it rains. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, ensure the venue has indoor space they can turnaround quickly in case of a last minute down pour. Bring along plenty of umbrellas for you and your guests, and consider providing towels or blankets to help keep everyone warm and dry.
2. Embrace the rain:
Rain can be a beautiful addition to wedding photos. Use it to your advantage by incorporating it into your shots. Umbrellas, reflections, getting soaked, off camera flash can all make for some romantic, dramatic and unique photo opportunities.
3. Stay positive:
It’s important to remember that rain is just one small part of your wedding day. Don’t let it get to you. Focus on the positive and enjoy the day. Your guests will follow your lead, so if you stay positive, they will too.
4. Use lighting
If it’s too rainy to take outdoor photos, consider using indoor spaces with great lighting. Beautifully lit rooms, staircases, and windows can create stunning images. Also, off camera flash with an umbrella can be stunning.
5. Be flexible
Remember that your wedding day is about celebrating your love for each other, rain or shine. Be flexible and willing to change your plans if necessary. Your photographer can help you come up with alternative photo locations if needed.
6. Hire an experienced photographer
Finally, make sure you hire an experienced wedding photographer who is used to dealing with rainy weather. They will know how to work with the weather conditions to create beautiful photos that you will treasure for a lifetime.
Whilst rain on your wedding day may not be ideal, it doesn’t have to ruin your special day. With a little preparation, positivity, and flexibility, you can still have a beautiful and memorable wedding day, no matter the weather.
