Sam & Fabio’s wedding

A little bit about you as a couple….tell me your love story.

Fabio was visiting Europe from Brazil in 2017 and was temporarily living in the U.K. I had been on a works night out and got chatting to Fabio the following day on an app and he wanted to meet me that evening. I had already organised a chilled night with my best friends but it got to 9.30pm and knowing Fab was out, I persuaded a friend to go out with me. I text him when we were out and had no response and an hour later I looked to my  right and on the dance floor he was looking over at me and we’ve pretty much been inseparable since! Fab moved in pretty quick and found a permanent job and it’s all been one big adventure since.
We have travelled to so many different countries and it’s having spontaneous adventures that really helps us to relax and enjoy!

How did Covid affect your day?

Covid meant that our wedding date changed twice… third time lucky! It was always due to be a small occasion with just family but it actually forced us to change reception venues and it was such a better place to host our special day.. so in some ways covid improved our day! The weather was perfect and The Bracebridge Terrace hosted our day so nicely. It really did feel special… albeit a whirlwind! We just missed out on having Fabio’s family over from Italy and Brazil which would’ve made the day completely perfect.

How did planning your wedding go? Any wins or dramas?!

The planning process for us was fairly straight forward. We just needed somewhere to host a meal after we tied the knot in the registry office. Due to Covid, the date changes were stressful because we had to keep changing plans for everyone else and check they were all available. But the wins were making the most of an awkward situation, finding your colours and styles gradually and really finding a venue that matches you as a couple.

What was the theme/colours/vibe of your day?

I wore a beige suit and Fabio wore a blue and beige suit. I actually wore the bow tie my mum wore when she married my dad. The bow was from my mum’s bow tie and the fastener was from my dad’s. So it was really special to me to wear it. Fabio had the same suit style as me, but in light blue.
My mum and sister made the button holes, which were cream roses and green foliage with some rustic style rope.
The vibe was rustic/boho, but we wanted it to be minimalist to avoid fussing over little details.

What did you want your guests to experience at your wedding?

We wanted our guests to have lots of food, lots of alcohol and lots of laughter. It was about the communion of our families and cultures, as well as the official bonding of our love.

What made you choose Sarah Hoyle Photography to document your day?

I had searched for loads of photographers on Instagram with a light and airy style and contacted many. I came across Sarah and LOVED the style because we wanted photos that didn’t add lots of shadow and we didn’t want to make our skin tones contrast in a stark way that we see from many wedding photographers. I took a gamble to see if Sarah would be willing to travel and was so thankful when she was. She’s also extremely fairly priced and works out a plan for your day that fits around you as a couple. We are so thankful we went with Sarah. It was literally like having an extra friend there on the day to help resolve potential barriers to the day, make us feel at ease and genuinely celebrated our union. We found posing in front of people quite intimidating being a gay couple, but Sarah made us forget and was really aware of what would make us feel more relaxed.
