Well Laura and Alex’s wedding was so, so much fun! I know Laura from my teaching days back in a secondary school in Camberley, so I was thrilled when they booked me to photograph their wedding. It’s so nice to already have a connection with my couples and as we both have teaching in common we spent a lot of the engagement shoot swapping notes on the education system!!
I couldn’t have asked for a more relaxed and genuine couple. With clearly so much love between them and all their friends and families! Drinks were flowing from the start and Laura’s bridesmaids made sure bubbles were on hand during the morning whilst they were all getting ready. Laura’s house was teaming with bridesmaids, parents, MUA’s and cats! It was such a delight to be part of that morning watching the transformation of Laura into a stunning bride. Her dress was to die for with so much lace and the colour of those bridesmaids were oh so on trend being Coral! Pantone’s colour of the year for 2019!
When I met Alex at the church in Guildford there were guests greeting him constantly…it was obvious these guys have so many amazing friends and family, all just so excited to be part of their big day. Once inside, the calm atmosphere quietened everyone down and we got ready for the formal proceedings. It always makes me chuckle when I open the church doors and all the guests and the groom turn around with baited breathe to see who it is and there’s always an audible groan as they realise ‘oh, it’s just the photographer!’ haha!
The ceremony was traditional but still bursting with emotion. Laura’s two friends sang quite possibly the most beautiful song for them whilst they signed the register. So special for Laura and Alex.
We then jumped in our cars and headed straight for the reception! And it was party time! The reception was held at Bonham’s Barn in Alton. A wonderfully rustic, original barn that faces the most beautiful English countryside with rolling hills and a non interrupted view of the sky. Just the most perfect backdrop for photos and those all important golden hour shots I love so much! Bonham’s barn is really hidden away and secluded, it gives that fabulous feeling of being completely isolated from anywhere else. Just what you need on your wedding day.
The party was awesome, everyone was so so happy. I had the best time photographing it, feeling like a guest rather than a supplier. The speeches…oh my gosh, everyone was in tears when Laura’s old teacher popped up on the screen with a message for her! Laura properly went and if I’m honest I was hiding behind my camera with tears rolling down my cheeks. It was so amazing that her Dad had gotten in touch with her old teacher and managed to get her to record a message for her wedding day. So emotional!!
They rest of the evening continued to be full of fun and laughter, with the English sunshine creeping lower into the sky as guests chatted, laughed, caught up and drank. Everyone was taking full advantage of the view and chilling out on hay bales and playing on the grass. I grabbed Alex and Laura again for some quick golden hour shots that are oh so romantic and dreamy with that soft light. Plus everyone is always so much more relaxed by then, I always get great photos at this point of the day. Everyone’s guard is down!
I simply love barn weddings, so pretty, so relaxed and can be made so personal, like the travel theme you see for Laura and Alex’s wedding. So if you like what you see and want similar photos of your wedding day, pop me a quick email or DM on Insta. I wanna hear all about your plans!
